We finally broke down and bought a new mattress. We last bought a mattress when Nalyn was born, she will be 20 this month..(note to self; next time, don't wait so long!!)
My question is , what is with the mattress makers these days? This mattress is 14 inches thick! How am I supposed to make the bed? Better yet, climb in? Since we went to a King, Farm boy had to make us a new frame and headboard. It is a work in progress (the man cave is coming along, but baby, it's cold outside) This frame will eventually have drawers underneath to store clothes, It also has little cubbies in the side of the headboard to store things.
I am loving it, but farm boy is going to have to make me a step-stool to get in! He jokingly refers to it as the tree-house bed. It is a good thing we didn't need a box spring! I would need an elevator! And please tell me where you get blankets and sheets that fit! so much for tucking them in. I hate it when the bottom of the bed comes untucked. curses! cold tootsies!

Oh my gosh I can't believe you waited so long for a mattress! You must love the new one! I am so loving your new headboard, farm boy has some serious talent. Hayden thinks you two are great primary teachers, which means a lot because he very strongly dislikes the idea of primary! BTW, I miss seeing you all at Bunco:( Hope you are all having lots of fun. ~E
I so relate to what you are saying -- we too got a new mattress for Christmas - we waited 15 years -- we needed to box springs too so for the first little while I felt like I had to get a ruuning start to climb into bed! Farm boy is amazing - I love the headboard - when your projects are finished send him my way!
Would you consider sharing the plans for the headboard so I could make one myself? I absolutely love this. Please email lilcagirl72@yahoo.com
Found you by way of Pinterest... Your bed is amazing! It would be wonderful if you could post more pictures. I'd love for my hubby to make one for us! :)
Sorry folks, I don't have a plan for this bed.It is basically two rectangular boxes to support the mattress-(this one has drawers in those boxes, 6 on each side, and others he's built had cubbies)and the headboard. The boxes are connected to the headboard with screws, and there is a sheet of plywood over them so the mattress doesn't fall thru. My husband just measured the bed and went from there!
Hi! I love this headboard. ok it is now 3 years later since your original post. Are you ready to part with it? I would love to purchase!! Maybe you could leave more explicit directions? Thank you!
